Assuring Quality
in International Healthcare Traineeships

The Project

Our Mission and Vision

In healthcare, student learning in clinical practice is an essential part of the curriculum. However, in a context of international mobility, healthcare professdionals ideally need to train within the system they intend to work in, so that they may easily integrate and deliver care. HEALINT is promoting such international training by developing management tools that support higher education and healthcare institutions to offer and direct high-quality cross-border apprenticeships which can serve as a basis for the development of formal international standards and guidelines.

Our mission is to facilitate the international mobility of trainees, and consequently, of professional in the healthcare sector. Our vision is to increase the supply and quality of international placements offered by hospitals throughout Europe, as well as to simplify the processes involved in organizing these for students, educational institutions and healthcare organizations.

The Project’s Outputs

by 2020 we will develop:

Protocol for appraisal and audit of hospitals or clinics to receive trainees

The protocol will create the possible criteria for selection of placements for trainees. The audit protocol will ensure that when a student requires an international placement, the home organisation (which must meet national requirements) will be able to check and assure the quality of the placement offered by a host (whose standards may be very different).

Protocol for training and support of auditors

The protocol will safeguard the credibility of the audits undertaken, by ensuring the auditors are independent and meet rigorous requirements in interpreting what they see when making their review.

Tools for Post-Evaluation of Placement-Quality

The protocol will safeguard the credibility of the audits undertaken, by ensuring the auditors are independent and meet rigorous requirements in interpreting what they see when making their review.

Monograph on Transferability

compiling the lessons learned during the project and target decision makers in Higher Education as a whole, with the aim of facilitating their own introduction of similar schemes.
